Happy Spring this Week!

We have a pretty quiet week this week at Swap ‘n Play! I do want to bring your attention to a few quick things:

– Food Buying Survey: As we wrap this survey up, PLEASE don’t forget to take a few minutes to get your voice heard! Answer our short questions HERE and give some feedback about what bulk food buying options you are intrested in.

-Member Dues are increasing to $25 a month in April. You can pay online through our website by clicking HERE or check/cash at swap.

-We will be welcoming in some new families these next two weeks! Our new member orientation will be held Sunday, April 1st and anyone is welcome to attend.

Thanks everyone! Enjoy your week,
Beth

Introduction to Family Biking with Katie Proctor
Saturday, April 21, 2012
10 am – noon.
Are you bike-curious? Don’t let your children hold you back! This two-hour workshop will give you the knowledge and confidence you need to hit the road by bike with your kids onboard.

We’ll discuss equipment, rules of the road, route selection, winter riding, and strategies for successful trips with kids of all ages. Biking with kids is a great way to get more exercise, see your neighbors, reduce your gas budget, and bring more joy into your life. Whether you’re hoping to take pleasure rides on weekends or give up a family car, this workshop will give you the information you need to get started!

Workshop is $7 for Swap members, $10 for non-members.  Printed materials, coffee, and snacks will be provided. Please RSVP to Janine @ jleckhart[at]me[dot]com so we know how many copies to make and cookies to bake.
Come with questions, worries, and obstacles-we’ll tackle them together!
Katie Proctor is a Portland mom and writer. She has been car-free since 2009 and has been riding with both of her children since they were babies-they are now 9 months and 2 ½. Her essays on family biking have been published in Taking the Lane and Boneshaker: A Bicycling Almanac, as well as at her blog, A Most Civilized Conveyance (civilizedconveyance.blogspot.com).

If you find any discrepancy between the fast track life you and your children are living and the peaceful pace you where imagining as a new parent, please join Yvonne de Maat of Heart in Hand Preschool in an exploration of modern child rearing. You will come away from this series with some simple ideas you can implement into your life right away to bring about profound change and deeper connections…

Yvonne is a trained Waldorf teacher and Simplicity Parenting group leader. She will start a 4 week parent group in April which will look at the many aspects of the home; creating rhythm, clearing up the environment, scheduling, discipline etc. For more information please call Yvonne at 503 287 4465

A note from a mom on our waiting list…

Hi Swap ‘n Play families,  I’m hoping to connect with families due from mid April to mid May who might be interested in trading birth doula services for an evaluation during my birth doula training. I will provide families support during the prenatal period, labor and birth and up to 6 weeks of postpartum. I believe that childbirth is a momentous event of birth for both babies and mom/partner into parenthood and am honored to nurture this emotional and physical metamorphosis. Please contact Jeny Kuss by phone (303.870.1693) or email (jenykuss@gmail.com) to answer any questions or if you are interested in setting up an interview.I am currently completing my dula training.
