We had a great Dad’s breakfast and work day for the pub. Thanks for coming!

I recently welcomed a few new families to join us, please welcome any new faces!

Dec. dues payments are due by Dec. 15th. If you don’t plan on renewing your membership, please contact Angela at lelunut@gmail.com. You can pay with paypal on our website, or leave cash or a check in the mailbox by the sign in book. Please note on the payment log how you paid just for our records. Thanks!

Co-op Jobs: If you are in need of a co-op job, and did not get Andrea’s recent email with the spreadsheet, please contact andrea@woodlawnswapnplay.org. If you are set with a co-op job don’t worry about contacting her.

In the spirit of giving back to our community, we are going to be participating in a Food Drive for the month of December. Angela is decorating a box to put the food in at swap n play and will be able to store the food as we collect it at her house, and then deliver it to the food bank for us! Please bring in any canned/boxed food between Dec. 5-31st and leave it in the box. The Oregon Food Bank experiences quite a shortage of food after Christmas, so we decided to collect food through the whole month, and drop it off in the beginning of Jan to help their supply. I will be sending another more detailed email about this early this week.

A few quick reminders:
Please remember to turn the heat down and clean-up the toys when you are the last to leave. I know getting out the door can be REALLY hard sometimes!
We are hitting peak sickness time as well. Lots of us have been sick, including my kids! Please take a minute to review the sickness guidelines we have for swap n play to try to keep our kids healthy as the holidays are here!

Lots of great ideas are in the works for events next year.. If there is something you would like to see happen at swap n play, please contact me and we can get it started!

Enjoy your week-

Dads: come enjoy some breakfast with your kids, leave them at swap with me, and I will watch the kiddos while the dads work next door. If we need more childcare, I can pull from some friends or dads can rotate helping. This will be a great community morning.

I will donate whatever clothes that are left over to a woman’s shelter. I’ll let you know when I figure out which place can use them.

Angela (Melody’s Mom)

If there is an idea you have, book to suggest, topic of interest, please come and share your ideas. For example, we are thinking of taking some time in January to discuss preschool models since a lot of us are thinking about what type of preschool to explore for the next school year.

Thursday
Happy Thanksgiving!

No Knitting, French, or Friday Big Kids Playgroup this week due to Thanksgiving.

News and Updates:

I am still coordinating a First Aid class, details to come. (I am waiting on a date from the instructor).

Dec. 1st: Birth Preparation Class with Carrie. Free to members, $5 for non-members. This class will focus on the 2nd Stage of Labor and Comfort Techniques. Contact Carrie for more information.

If you could use a hi-chair while at swap, I will have one available in the back storage area by the bathroom.

We are going to leave the heat switch turned to ON, not OFF, and use the thermostat to control the temp. at swap n play. If you get there and need to turn the heat on, which we will be doing a lot of these days, please just adjust the
temp. on the thermostat accordingly. When you leave, please make sure to turn the heat down (50 degrees would be good). I will also leave a note by the heat. Thanks!!

Member Dues: Our Fall session will be up at the end of Nov.  Instead of starting another 3 month session in Dec like I had planned, I am going to ask families pay ONLY for Dec. and then start another session in Jan and go through March. Three reasons for the change: Families tend to spend more money during this time of year than others, and $60 is a substantial amount of money. St John’s Swap n Play will begin a new session in Jan, and we have some joint members with them, so this puts us on the same session cycle, and three, this will be much easier for taxes to keep the income separated from the coming year. I will leave the black mailbox by the sign-in sheet for dues payments as well as a payment log. Dues are due until Dec. 15th.

If you know that you are going to discontinue your membership after Nov. 30th, moving/work change etc., please let me know right away. We have some anxious families that want to join (46 to be exact)!

Upcoming Projects:
Things to keep your eyes out for…
I am working on hanging the bulletin board for swapping items.
I am going to be hanging some indoor plants to help improve the air quality for winter!!
New curtains for the changing table/storage area
And, I have someone who is going to re-finish the table top and add a clear coat to protect if from food/drink spills.
I have more supplies to keep the mice out!! Dean and I will be doing some more mice-proofing this coming weekend.

Food Buying:
Veggie orders due by Friday for Saturday pick-up
Dave’s Killer Bread order has begun for Nov. 30th delivery. Email jessie shmatterling@gmail.com for the spreadsheet if you did not get it, and want to be included.

Jobs: Thanks to all of you for doing your swap jobs! Swap n Play would not be the amazing place it is without everyone helping out. Thank you for cleaning shelves, cleaning the bathroom, teaching classes, organizing food buying groups, sorting clothes, cleaning the floors, organizing toys, deep cleaning toys, taking out the garbage, carrying toys up and down the stairs, helping with projects from home, and I could go on and on!!!

And, I also want to take a moment to express a HUGE thank you to all the families that are a part of swap n play. I am so thrilled that so many families have joined and want to support swap n play! It has been an amazing first 6 months, meeting all of you and creating a community for our kids to be a part of.

Enjoy your week,
Beth

Dec. 3rd: Breakfast with Dad at swap n play. More details to come soon, mark your calendars!

News/Information:

Does anyone have a Dustbuster they don’t use at home and would like to donate to swap? It would be great to have one to clean up little spills and messes here and there.

Please try to clean up after yourself as much as possible. We are still fighting against some little mice creatures that like our crumbs at night! I am still working with an exterminator on the issue.

Thanks to our birthday mama Janine we have a birthday board! Please encourage your child to make a little card etc. for our birthday kids. The birthday child can take home his/her cards on or around their birthday. This is just one more way we can try to encourage community with our kids as well.

New co-op job opportunity: Bench Cleaner! (sounds fun, I know!) If you still need a co-op job I am adding two spots for someone to vacuum the bench. (This will cut down on the crumbs and help keep the eating area more tidy). Interested? Email andrea@woodlawnswapnplay.org

There has been some great activity with our Google group and swapping larger items, which reminds me I will be putting up the bulletin board this week to post on notecards items such as hi-chairs, swings, bouncy chairs etc. for swapping. If you have something like this, fill out a card, or if you are looking for something here is one more way to get your request out there!

Don’t forget to bring in your old costumes to swap n play. I am excited to add more dress-up options and to encourage our kids imaginations! Put them over by the clothing bins. Thanks!

Next time you are at swap, take a look at the lost and found cubby and the dishes left from the Halloween Party. We are getting quite a collection of cups and misc. clothes.

First Aid/CPR Update: I found some cheaper/shorter class options for our group. A 2 hour class!! Interested? Email me!

Food Buying:
Veggie orders are due by Friday 8am for Saturday pick-up. Interested in the group info: email Jessie at shmatterling@gmail.com

Azure orders due Tuesday 4pm for Friday pick-up.

Have a good week! Please contact me with any questions about our events or activities you would like to see at swap.

Thanks!

We are still looking for help with decorations and putting up flyers in the community.

A message from the clothing team:

A lot of great clothing and gear has been brought in for swapping lately. Thanks everyone!!

Lately some SNP members have been asking whether it’s okay to just leave swap items in bags or boxes at the back of the room, and the answer is yes! Members of the clothing team will happily sort your clothing, toys, books and gear into the appropriate locations! 🙂

Wondering whether it’s okay to bring in spring and/or summer clothes? The answer to that question is also yes (with a great big “please” attached!). We plan to store off-season clothing so that when spring arrives, we’ll all have lots of clothing to choose from. Also, if any of you are lucky enough to be heading to warmer climates before spring arrives, just let me know (akdena@yahoo.com) and I’ll bring in our stockpiles for you to peruse!

And what about maternity clothing? Unfortunately, our space isn’t large enough to store maternity clothes for swapping. So, if you do drop any off, please be aware that it’ll be put aside for donation (along with other pieces of wonderful infant and toddler clothing that just won’t fit into our bins). If you’re looking for maternity clothing or looking to share some, you may want to consider letting other members know via SNPs Facebook page or our new Google Groups.

On a different note, do you have infant or toddler gear that you’ve been meaning to sell? If you do, we’ve got the perfect reason for you to procrastinate! Come spring, the Swap ‘n’ Play will be hosting a community event upstairs in the ballroom that will (among other things) provide an opportunity for SNP members to grab a table and sell their stuff. The details of the event are still being worked out, but we’re tentatively aiming for the first weekend in March.

Neighborhood Help!
A GREAT service opportunity: The Woodlawn Community Garden needs your help! Sunday, October 30th, at 10am a group from The Oregon Community Church will be preparing the garden for winter along with others in the Woodlawn neighborhood. Want to help? Interested in the garden? Come join the team! (Meet at the garden).

Food Buying:
