Dear Families!

I won’t write too long of a note today as this is coming out a little late this week!

On Sunday I met with our Adivsory Board and we had a great meeting! Lots of good stuff for Spring. As a group we decided not to go ahead with plans for our small outdoor space, there is a great park down the street right!, Instead I am going to look into buying an outdoor shed to use there as an extra storage space for swap stuff which will allow for more storage for our Food Buying Groups and toys in our play space!

Our new handbook will be coming out soon to everyone! And, a revised mission statement that I will be posting in the space for everyone to see.

We have new Spring Events… details below including a new music time thanks to some talented members!

Enjoy your week playing, sharing, and swapping!
Beth

Let’s Support the NW Mother’s Milk Bank

The students from my PSU capstone class “Current Issues in Pregnancy and Birth” have partnered with the Northwest Mother’s Milk Bank to help them raise money so we can process milk for babies in need here in the northwest. We are trying to raise $10,000 by the end of spring term to help purchase needed equipment. This will hugely benefit premie babies in the NICU especially–if you have any experience with this and want to share your story or donate, please do so on facebook or on our fundraising website:
http://www.razoo.com/story/Fill-Their-Bottles
Every dollar helps!!!
Donations are safe and tax deductible.
Please share this email and help us Fill Their Bottles!!!!

You can also check out our facebook page www.facebook.com/filltheirbottles and please pass it along to others!

Thank you!

Veggies CSA Options for Swap ‘n Play
a message from JJ and Liz…

As it turns out – we have another option for CSA. Dancing Roots farm is willing to work with us as well. Some of you have let me know about your interest in the a la carte veggies from Pete, which we will still do, but if anyone is interested in a Dancing Roots full CSA share, for $530, please let me know. If 20 families commit, the price drops to $505/share.

WE make a yearly investment into the farm, and for 26 weeks we reap the benefits of what the farm produces.
In this case it’s about $20 a week for incredible, heirloom,
sustainable fruits and veggies that are not commonly found at New seasons or the likes. Plus they are picked that DAY!!!!! 🙂 Soooooooooo, We’ll get carrots but not regular carrots, they will be a variety that tastes and looks different!

Farmer Shari goes out of her way to find very hearty, 1 of a kind seeds, that grow well in the Pacific NW.She rotates the crops all season so we get a fun variety, not just Zucchini, for the 26 weeks. She sells to some of the best restaurants…ie Lincoln and Natural Selection. to name a couple. There are a few pick up sites during the week, one will be very close to WSP.Shari sets the produce for the week out, with a list of what we can take. We go thru the produce ourselves with our own bags and chose what we want within limits of the farm share. Shari always has paperwork to give us with a description of the veggies, their history and recipes. The pick up site is generally lively, social and  community driven!

Contact JJ at mountainflower3@yahoo.com if you are interested in joining.

Happy Easter Swap ‘n Play Families!
I hope everyone enjoys this holiday weekend. I was so greatful to see the sun today, I hope this means we might be seeing more of it sooner than later.

Speaking of springtime and sunshine, I think that swap could use a bit of a spring clean! Give the toys a good wipe down, clean behind all the clothing bins… all that fun stuff! So. April 28th, Saturday, from 9-12 we will be deep cleaning swap ‘n play! I was able to get use of the ballroom that morning, so we can have some kids playing upstairs while parents clean, and rotate watching kids. We could use a lot of help, even if it is for just part of the time! Mark your calendars now!!

I have a few other announements… so keep reading! See you around swap n play this week,
Beth

Illness Reminder

I know that the “sick winter months” are just about behind us, but just a reminder as we get through this last push until we are done with runny noses and coughs, please be cautious when bringing your child to swap ‘n play if they are sick. We really can pass germs around easily. Please use the hand sanitizer, kleenex, and baby wipes as needed; they are there for all of us to use!

If by chance you child does come down with a severe illenss such as Hand and Foot disease or a case of lice, if would be very helpful for the swap ‘n play group for you to send me an email so I can alert the group, of course I will keep family information confidential. I know that at least one other swap ‘n play operates this way, and families appreciate a “heads up” when serious illnesses hit.
Thanks for understanding. I really want to keep our families healthy!

Family Square Dance this Sunday!

4pm, in The Village Ballroom, we will be hosting a Family Dance! This is open to non-members for a donation.
$15 per family (suggested)
Free, or ($5 if you can) for swap families
Money goes toward paying the live musicians that make this a wonderful event for the whole family!

Summer Concerts!

I am working in a Summer Concert Schedule in The Village Ballroom, and should have dates out soon to everyone!

Our first concert will be celebrating swap’s one year birthday, June 10th. CRAZY. Sunday, starting at 4pm: Mr. Ben’s Band and a potluck dinner.

Other performers will be coming this summer, and I am hoping to end with Elizabeth Mitchell in September, she has a new album out! We are working on ballroom availability to nail it down for sure.  Let’s hope I can get her!

Attention Pregnant Moms:
A note from a mom on our waiting list…
Hi Swap ‘n Play families,  I’m hoping to connect with families due from mid April to mid May who might be interested in trading birth doula services for an evaluation during my birth doula training. I will provide families support during the prenatal period, labor and birth and up to 6 weeks of postpartum. I believe that childbirth is a momentous event of birth for both babies and mom/partner into parenthood and am honored to nurture this emotional and physical metamorphosis. Please contact Jeny Kuss by phone (303.870.1693) or email (jenykuss@gmail.com) to answer any questions or if you are interested in setting up an interview.I am currently completing my dula training. Love and Logic is a nationally known program that has been recognized as an effective parenting strategy for parents who have children of all ages. Relationship skills also included in this workshop are based on the Prevention Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP), which has thirty years’ worth of research behind it.”

Session topics include:

  • Motivating your child to be responsible
  • Gaining control through choices
  • Enjoying your role as a parent
  • Modeling good communication skills
  • Becoming and encouraging better listeners

Space is limited, so please RSVP if you are INTERESTED since we don’t have dates yet. And…. would you rather the class be offered: Sunday afternoon with childcare, or a weekday evening without childcare? PLEASE let me know.
